Build a relationship with our community
Our recurring service trips are semester-long service commitments that offer students the opportunity to build relationships with community partners in the New River Valley and Roanoke areas.
Spring 2017 recurring trips
With the Reading Hour program in Giles County, Reading Hour Mentors are partnered with a 3-4 year old child in a preschool classroom in Giles County. Reading aloud to children during their first five years of life is an important part of their brain development. Mentors help the child improve vocabulary, listening skills, self-esteem, and their love of reading.
- Food diversion: assist with recovering surplus food from dining halls. This is a semester-long commitment (2 hours each week); you are welcome to volunteer for more than one shift per week. All diversion volunteers will complete VT Dining Service Food Safety 100 course before.
- Delivery shift leaders & drivers: you'll lead food deliveries each week from campus to a community partner. To join us, you'll need to be approved to drive by the VT Engage office and be available to commit to at least one shift each week for the semester.
