Engage with the New River Valley Through Service

At VT Engage, we believe meaningful service begins with strong community partnerships. Through collaboration with local nonprofits and community organizations across the New River Valley, we create opportunities for Virginia Tech students to engage in service that addresses community-identified needs while fostering learning, reflection, and civic responsibility.

Hokies Serve Saturdays

Hokies Serve Saturdays are one-time volunteer opportunities that connect Virginia Tech students with local nonprofits and community organizations throughout the New River Valley.

By serving alongside community partners, students will:

  • Learn about local community needs and the organizations working to address them.
  • Build meaningful connections with fellow Hokies.
  • Make a tangible impact on community-identified priorities.

Designed with busy student schedules in mind, Hokies Serve Saturdays take place on weekends, making it easier for students to participate in meaningful service without conflicting with weekday classes and commitments.

How It Works

  • Browse upcoming Hokies Serve Saturday opportunities on GobblerConnect.
  • Register individually for the service opportunity that interests you.
  • Arrive ready to serve! Volunteers will either arrive at the service site or meet at VT Engage (417 Clay St SW) for transportation*. VT Engage Student Leaders will provide site leadership and volunteer support.
  • Return to campus with new connections, a greater understanding of your community, and a meaningful service experience.

* Limited transportation from campus is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
