Seed Grant

up to $1,000

This grant supports faculty in the design and ideation process of creating a service-learning project. Previous VT Engage Faculty Fellows are eligible for this program.

Expectations of Seed Grant

  • Design a new community-based learning course(s)/program(s) or add substantial community-based learning elements to existing courses/programs. There is no commitment to teach the class connected to this grant in the academic year (AY); however, faculty are expected to design a syllabus by the grant term's end with the intent to pilot that course in the coming terms. To support teaching the course during the subsequent AY, faculty can apply for the Program Development Grant.
  • Meet twice per semester during the funding cycle with VT Engage and the Faculty Fellows cohort to discuss progress, challenges, and strategies.
  • Design a sustainable and mutually beneficial learning program with at least one potential community partner.
